2015 Western Districts Cattle Club On Farm Challenge

Judge: Mr Peter Scott, Cobrico Holsteins
147 Head

The Western District Ayrshire Cattle Club held its annual On-farm challenge across 3 days for 2015 with entries topping a record 147 cows. The club was able to offer prizes across 8 classes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd reaching nearly $3,500.00 in total. The guest judge for 2015 was Mr Peter Scott of Cobrico Holsteins, and he commended the level of dairyness and great udders and capacity the Ayrshire breed presented him across all 3 days. The entries for the challenge spread from Carlisle below Colac to Drumborg west of Heywood, and cows came from small herds of 80 through to large dairy herds of 800 and showed the Ayrshire breed holds its own across a wide variety of farming systems.

The On-farm challenge culminated with a dinner and presentation night on the final day at the Commercial Hotel in Camperdown and was well attended by both entrants and businesses supporting the challenge. The final results were as followed.
