Export Embryos for World Ayrshire Conference 2020
As part of the 2020 World Ayrshire Conference, Australia will be holding a Silent Embryo Auction.
We will be calling for nominations from Australian Ayrshire Breeders - and overseas Ayrshire breeders - for possible Embryo packages to be put up for auction. At this point in time, depending on the level of interest, pedigrees will be evaluated prior to their inclusion in the sale as we wish to make this an elite and exclusive sale.
As we will be hosting a range of international guests, it is the perfect opportunity to be pushing our Australian Ayrshire Genetics worldwide. In order to do so, there are certain export qualifications that must be met to be able to ship world wide.
Whilst the conference is still a couple of years away yet, now is the time to start thinking about your possible ET programs in preparation for the event.
Australian Ayrshires member, Emma Ludington, is the current domestic and export ET program manager for Total Livestock Genetics in South Western Victoria. She has provided some information below regarding the export qualifications required for each of our fellow member countries.
Hi Ayrshire Breeders!
For those who don’t know me, my name is Emma and I am a NSW Ayrshire breeder living in Victoria (strange, I know!). I currently work for Total Livestock Genetics in south western Victoria, and here I manage all the domestic and export ET programs.
With the World Conference in Australia only a few short years away, I thought it might be timely to let you all know about options for export qualified embryo production. With breeding being what it is, some of you may want to think about collecting export qualified embryos for the silent auction I know is in the works. This will be the biggest and best opportunity to offer our genetics to the world, so let’s be prepared and offer them our best!
I have listed below a few major countries that may have interests in purchasing embryos at the conference, and what some of the basic requirements are for each. If you have any specific countries you would like to target, please let me know and I can always look into it and get back to you. It is also worth emphasising that we can qualify embryos for multiple countries at once, or just target one specific country. The choice is of course up to you.

Please note that export qualified embryos need to be collected from donors housed at our quarantine facility in Glenormiston, Victoria. At this time, we cannot accommodate in milk animals, however there may be limited options to collect export embryos on farm from these animals. If you are serious about collecting embryos on farm, please contact me so we can discuss the protocol further and ensure that all requirements can be met.
